The 2017 Haut-Beausejour has quite a bit of depth and resonance. All things considered, the 2017 is a very nicely done wine, especially considering the challenges of the growing season. Sweet tobacco, licorice and incense add aromatic nuance to this fleshy, pleasantly rustic Saint-Estephe. The blend is 63% Merlot and 37% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Features alluring, gently mulled damson plum and cherry fruit, with enticing red tea and floral notes darting throughout. A light chalky echo permeates the finish, adding length and grace. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2028. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

"We got a lot more rain here in Saint-Estèphe, so we had some dilution, especially on the soils with more clay in them," winemaker Nicolas Glumineau (also of Pichon Lalande) mentioned. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Haut Beausejour is a little closed on the nose, opening out to pure plums and crushed blueberries notes with touches of tilled soil, tapenade and lavender. The palate is medium-bodied and firm with finely grained tannins and lovely freshness in the mouth, finishing on a mineral note.
