Four grape varieties are used in the Tronquoy-Lalande blend: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Each plays its role and values the other three by bringing here roundness, density, elsewhere aromas or persistence. It will be appreciated to find in the assembly of melted tannins, spicy aromas and flavors of tobacco, resin, blackcurrant or liquorice that constitute the aromatic identity card of Château Tronquoy-Lalande and give it a well-marked personality.

A pure, racy version, with an iron-edged frame that keeps the red currant and damson plum fruit very focused. Mouthwatering tobacco and wet pebble accents are inlaid on the pleasantly austere finish. Well done. Best from 2018 through 2024.

The 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande has a crisp, graphite and black fruit nose, tightly wound with very fine precision. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, plenty of graphite and cedar infusing the black fruit, although I find the finish just a little clipped and lacking a little finesse compared to some of the other Saint Estèphes. Still, this has good potential, even if it is destined to remain in the shadow of its sibling, the 2014 Montrose.
